Dual-Axis Solar Tracking Units (DAT)

We are one of the very few businesses that offer Residential sized Dual-axis solar Trackers, as well as larger units more suited to Rural installations ! (see below images)

If you have 16m2 of clear area on the ground, why would someone want to install 20~24 solar modules on a rooftop, when one can harvest the same Energy using 8 solar modules mounted on a single DAT-8 Solar Tracking unit, and these units can easily be relocated, if using the Spider Foundation with Earth Ground Screws!

DAT trackers capture the full extent of the sun's ray's, the further South of the Equator you live the better, up to 14 hours per day in the south of Tasmania, this is done by follow the sun completely, relevant to your global location.  The increase in energy captured by solar dual-axis tracking is increased by up to & more than 100%, than fixed flat mounted panels, as two-axis of rotation allow the tracker to position the solar modules/panels to face perpendicular (directly at) to the sun from dawn to dusk.

Dual  Axis Tracking Software adjusts for the sun’s height (latitude) as well east to west rotation (sunrise to sunset), the electronic tracking software automatically adjusts for seasons as well as adjusting to face the sun as it sits low in the horizon at sunrise and sunset, and obviously high in the sky in the middle of the day.

Yes, Dual-axis trackers are more complex and hence more expensive, however, the big pay-off is they Greatly increase the Solar energy harvested buy over 50%*, and you may only need 1/3 of the panels required of a roof-top system, due to the obscure angle of the sun striking the modules for 2/3 of the day.

Our standard DAT Kits come purposely over-engineered, each with 24V motors, east~west tracking via a Single-axis Slew Bearing, with north~south Tracking is done via a heavy duty Linear Actuator (screw jack).

So, you can now choose a residential DAT Kit that can holds from 2~18 x 380W or 1~14 x 500W Solar Panels !

The 8~18 Panel DAT units are very similar design, the main different is the Mast diameter & length, as well as the module Racking size to accommodate the size panels being fitted.

Larger commercial 48 Panel (96m2) DAT Kits commonly require a 3m x 3m x 1.2m Steel reinforced concrete foundation.

Our Fully Automatic DAT Kits all come with a choice of Mast Height, Slew Bearing, Tilt Chassis, Linear Actuator, Panel Racking, waterproof pole mounted Sun tracking unit, Wind speed indicator, and over rotation Stop switch kits.

These DAT studies shows how several Dual-axis Trackers can re-pay the initial investment cost from 3~8 years, depending on your system, this is done by replacing the power bill totally by self consuming all the power you produce, and then the system owner will no longer have an ongoing power bill for the next 30+ years, obviously using the correct Batteries is the turn-key part of a system.

What great about a battery system: Batteries allows you to first & foremost store the excess energy you harvest or produce for later consumption, by simply drawing energy directly from your batteries.

So basically, batteries are charged to full capacity first - then during the day you have the choice to automatically send any excess energy to either operate say your Water-heater or Air-conditioner etc. - or export it straight into the State Grid for a feed-in tariff - This simple means that at sun set you will only be consuming your own energy from the Batteries until sun-rise, thus eliminate paying the retail price for power after sun set & during the day - That is how you become energy independent !

Again, solar trackers increases the performance of solar PV panels in the shoulder periods of the day, where a static fixed mount panel would only receive obscured sun exposure. This can be seen in the graphs of side by side solar tracking panels & static fixed panels.

NB: Solar Arrays without Battery storage, will provide little return on investment using the 6~11 cents/kWh Retailer feed-in tariff, as you simply remained enslaved to the State Grid & electrical Retailers, by choosing to continue paying the retail price for power after sunset!

The purpose of Solar Trackers is to generate substantially more power than a standard fixed flat panel Solar array, improving generation increases independence, and when solar & battery storage is used a Reposit Box can earn you $1.00kWh GridCredits.

Fitting a solar tracker without Batteries, only allows you to minimise your power bills, usually exporting 50~80% of your daytime power into the State Grid for little return, many people simply fail to understand and miss the point of becoming Independent, and only generate a small income.

The up-front cost for a solar tracker is higher, and without Batteries the payback period is longer.  In reality, spending more money on additional solar cells, yields higher generation with little financial return to the system owner storage.

We only recommend purchasing a Hybrid inverter, and 380W or larger solar panels, purchasing 270W solar panels harvest 30% less energy & more panels are required, creating a larger footprint to harvest the same energy.

An over size inverter are better to control your future power production and distribution, hybrid-inverters are designed to handle multiple input voltage from several power sources, such as Solar, Wind, Aqua, Battery and even Generator input, Hybrid inverters come with built in AGS management, that automatically starts or shuts-down a generator as programmed.
