How to Clean-n-Service NiFe Cells & Replace the Electrolyte !
Any NiFe Battery that is Not holding Charge to 1.2V, you need to First;
Do a Continuity Test to see if any of the Terminal Plates are Shorting !
CLEANING: Remove and Tip out all the Electrolyte into a Non Corrosive Bucket/Container, Keep OUT of the Way of CHILDREN & ANIMALS & let settle with a Cover.
We have been told you can Fine Filter the Electrolyte down to 2 micron & re-use.
Get the Garden Hose and fast Flush & Fill with as much Pressure into above the Cell Plates.
Put all Cell fill Plugs Bungs on, so theirs no Leakage, Rocking or Rock the Cells back & fort should dislodge any loose Debris around the Plates, if a small Ah Cell you could Shake it.
Tip the Flushed Contents into a Large Plastic Garbage bin or Non corrosive Container.
If any loose Debris comes out, keep Filling Flush the Battery until Clear water comes out.
If/When there is No silt or residue, do a Continuity Test to see if any of the Terminal Plates are Shorting!
RESTORING: If OK, Mix a New batch of Electrolyte, & it should work again for 7~15years if Not Over Discharged or Distilled Water is not used to Maintain Liquid Height.
If You are finding Your Electrolyte in Not Lasting for 5+ Years, you May be Consuming more than 80% of the kWh Storage Energy, as this can Kill the Electrolyte Quickly !
Solution is simple, Purchase more Energy Storage that is Compatible.
